Medical RiSC is a course run by the University of Otago Rural Postgraduate Programme designed specifically for interprofessional rural hospital teams in New Zealand. It is an immersive 3 day course that focuses on emergency medical care using highly realistic skills simulations and workshops.
We are inviting Rural Hospital Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and Rural GP’s to attend and extend their clinical knowledge and skills for medical emergency management.
The course will cover:
• Rural airway management
• Managing the rural deteriorating patient
• Respiratory failure and ventilation
• Unwell cardiac patient
• Cardioversion & electrical pacing workshops
• Medical emergencies
• Management of shock including inotropes/vasopressors
• Thrombolysis
• Interpreting ECG’s and ABG’s
• Rural human factors, teamwork and communication
• NZ rural hospital networking and collaboration
The cost $3,500 per Rural Hospital Doctor, $950 per Rural General Practitioner, $500 per Nurse or Paramedic. We encourage you to come as an inter-professional team from your workplace if possible, however we also warmly welcome individual applicants
*We recognise that Nurses have limited professional development funds, so we encourage Rural Hospital Doctors to support their colleagues by extending their CME to sponsor a nurse from their hospital to attend.
