About Jean’s research
Professor Jean Hay-Smith’s research is with, for, and about women and is focused on their wellbeing. In particular, she has undertaken projects about the rehabilitation of pelvic floor muscle for women who experience incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Jean has past and current research collaborations in multiple countries including New Zealand, England, Scotland, Australia, Canada, Brazil, The Netherlands, Estonia and Norway.
Jean is currently the academic lead of The Rehabilitation Teaching and Research Unit | Te Whare Whakamatūtū, in the Department of Medicine. She is a foundation editor of Cochrane Incontinence, and was a committee member and chair in four International Consultations on Incontinence. Jean has co-convened Women in Leadership Otago, and served on the committee of New Zealand Women in Leadership.
