Tissue Engineered Heart Valves - will it work?
Marcus Ground, PhD Candidate
Supervisors: Professor Robert Walker, Professor Jillian Cornish and Mr Paget Milsom
Heart valve disease is on the rise, and current valve replacement options are wanting. Neither of the commonly used mechanical and tissue-based prostheses have the ability to repair and grow within the recipient.
In his PhD, Marcus aims to create a tissue engineered heart valve: a 'living' graft that supports a population of the patient's cells prior to implantation.
All University of Otago and Southern District Health Board staff and students are welcome to attend.
