Phototherapy for Dental Disease Treatment and Tissue Repair – A Multidisciplinary Approach, presented by Professor Paul Cooper from the Faculty of Dentistry.
Paul obtained a BSc (Hons) in Genetics from Leeds University (1992) and received his PhD from the University of Birmingham, UK, in Cancer Sciences (1995).
He undertook postdoctoral positions at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, New York, US, and in the UK working in the pharmaceutical industry for Novartis.
In 2000 he joined the School of Dentistry, University of Birmingham. He became Professor of Oral Biology in 2012, and was the Director of Research and Deputy Head of School.
In 2019 he was appointed the John Arnaud Bell Professor of Oral Biology at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Otago. In 2010, he received the Young Investigator Award from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). He is the current President of the Pulp Biology Regeneration Group of IADR and Vice President of the ANZ Division of IADR.
He has published >200 manuscripts in several areas of dental and biomedical research (H-index of 58). He has co-authored over 10 book chapters, and has editorial roles with several leading dental journals. He has successfully supervised >40 PhD students, and attracted >£5-million of funding from research councils, industry and charities
