A seminar co-hosted by OERC and the Centre for Sustainability, presented by Dr Shama Islam, Deakin University
With the advancement of information and communication technologies, traditional energy systems have emerged into smart grid. Smart grid infrastructure enables numerous intelligent application through seamless connectivity among different components of the electricity network and resulting big data that can be accessed from intelligent devices across the network.
This talk will explore a number of such applications including energy forecasting, network performance characterisation, energy usage optimisation and peer to peer energy trading. In addition, enabling technologies such as internet of things, peer to peer communication along with considerations of cyber security issues will also be discussed.
The talk will elaborate a number of practical case studies undertaken for Australian energy system network and depict key findings and insights. Through this, potential collaboration opportunities with research organisations and electricity utilities in New Zealand will be explored
