Famed chimpanzee researcher and environmentalist Dame Jane Goodall will present a public lecture at the University of Otago on Thursday 23 June.
The lecture, which is titled: “Celebrating 50 years at Gombe”, is Dame Jane’s only public engagement during her visit to New Zealand. Gombe Stream National Park is where she began her world-famous chimpanzee studies in 1960.
Entry to the free event is by ticket only and from June 1 these can be booked at the Department of Zoology reception (340 Great King Street). The lecture will be held between 5 and 6pm. Venue and seating details will be given upon booking.
Two Jane Goodall-related films will also be shown at the University next month. On 2 June, the 2010 documentary Jane’s Journey, which has yet to be released in New Zealand, will play at the Castle 1 Lecture Theatre at 6pm. On 16 June, the 2005 documentary Return to Gombe will screen at the same venue and time.
There will be opportunities at the film screenings and lecture to donate towards Dame Jane’s Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre.
