The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Harlene Hayne, is delighted to announce that the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, will be guest speaker at this year's Convocation Ceremony.
“It is always a delight and a point of pride welcoming our new valuable young citizens to the University every year. To add to this, it is a privilege for us to host the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern at this year's ceremony. We look forward to welcoming her to the University and hearing her address to our audience of over 3000 first-year students,” says Professor Hayne.
Each year, Orientation is an opportunity to show-case the first-class educational and pastoral support available at Otago and provides a spectacular foundation for the academic year ahead.
Past Convocation Ceremonies have involved approximately 3000 first-year students crowding the stands at Forsyth Barr Stadium to be officially welcomed to the University.
Past guest speakers at the Convocation event have included former New Zealand Prime Ministers John Key and Bill English.
Orientation week, run mostly by OUSA, each year involves a Sports Day for new incoming students at Colleges as well as for local Dunedin new students, tent city, an international expo, and a concert at the stadium.
This year's Convocation Ceremony is to take place on Monday 19th February, 7:30pm – 8:30pm at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
