Stewart Island

The University of Otago’s Marine Science department owns a house on Stewart Island to be used as a remote field station for researchers undertaking an increasing amount of work in the area.

Wet and dry lab space is available and a small boat Naiad is available to book for use at the station.  The larger vessel RV Beryl Brewin is on site several times during the year.  There is accommodation for up to 12.  For bookings or further information, contact Julie-Anne Parsons.

Deep Cove, Fiordland

A small field station is maintained at Deep Cove in Fiordland.  Access is through Manapouri and Wilmot Pass.  A small boat is available to book for use at the station.  The Department's larger vessels are on site several times during the year.  For bookings or further information, contact Julie-Anne Parsons.

Otago Harbour, Dunedin

The Portobello Marine Laboratory has been supporting marine field research in Otago Harbour and beyond for more than 100 years.  Small boats, larger vessels, field equipment, dive support are all available.
