Otago Medical School works with government, government agencies and health providers to ensure that our graduates are safe, competent and effective and that our students learn in appropriately managed situations. Many staff members also serve on governing bodies such as the New Zealand Medical Council's Education Committee and the board of Health Workforce New Zealand to ensure a close alignment between medical education and the needs and processes of medical practice in New Zealand.
Australian Medical Council (AMC) Accreditation
The Australian Medical Council (AMC) undertakes accreditation of all medical student teaching programmes on a regular basis for all medical schools in Australia and New Zealand. Read more about AMC accreditation here: AMC website
Medical Schools Outcomes Database (MSOD)
The University of Otago is a partner in this project, which collects information on students prospective career pathways and their eventual direction to assist the Ministry of Health with workforce planning.
The medical school and its sites have regularly-reviewed agreements with the District Health Boards and other providers that govern the arrangements under which students learn under supervision in clinical environments.
