With nearly 20 years’ experience at the University of Otago, it is fair to say Chris Stoddart is invested in the institution.

The current Manager of Policy and Compliance, Academic Services is looking forward to continuing the association, albeit in a new position, when he takes over as Registrar and Secretary to the Council in October.

“I am very excited about the new role. The University of Otago has been an important and very positive part of my life, and as the Registrar, I look forward to having a more formal role in promoting and safeguarding the values and culture that make Otago such a wonderful place,” he says.

Announcing Mr Stoddart’s appointment, Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne says: “Chris has a strong track-record of building relationships across the University and has a deep understanding of our academic policies and procedures.”

A graduate of the University, Mr Stoddart has previously worked as a Research Assistant within the Higher Education Development Centre, as the Surveys and Projects Co-ordinator for the Quality Advancement Unit, and as Manager of the Doctoral and Scholarships Office. Most recently he joined the Academic Services team in early 2014.

"I am very excited about the new role ... as the Registrar, I look forward to having a more formal role in promoting and safeguarding the values and culture that make Otago such a wonderful place."

“I am fortunate to have built up a network of fantastic colleagues across Otago in my time here. It will be great to have a chance to continue to work with these people, but from a slightly different perspective. I’m also looking forward to making new connections both inside and outside the University.”

Dunedin-born and raised, he followed both his brother and sister into studying at Otago, completing an honours degree in Philosophy in 1998, and started working at the University shortly after graduating.

He is married with two daughters; his eldest daughter is currently studying at Otago.

Mr Stoddart will take up the role following Jan Flood’s retirement at the end of September.
