Matariki Network of Universities' Travel Awards

Tuesday 5 February 2019 10:43pm

Applications are invited for the University of Otago's Matariki Network of Universities’ (MNU) Travel Awards. The purpose of these Awards is to enable academic and professional staff at the University of Otago to meet with colleagues from MNU member universities to develop and/or enhance collaboration. That collaboration can be research or teaching/curriculum related. The Travel Awards are to be used in addition to regular conference or RSL funding, with the additional funding enabling a visit to a MNU partner that would otherwise not have been funded through either conference or RSL monies. Further information regarding the MNU, member institutions and its objectives, is available at www.matarikinetwork.org.

Applications are available from Lynda McIver (lynda.mciver@otago.ac.nz) and should detail the purpose of the visit, whether or not there is already an existing collaborative relationship with the person(s) to be visited, the nature of the collaboration, confirmation that you have the appropriate conference/ RSL approval and evidence of who you will be meeting with at the MNU institution(s) you intend to visit (e.g. letters of invitation). An indicative budget (including quotes for flights from one of the two University-approved travel agents, stipend, hotel, shuttle/ car hire and insurance costs etc) and timeframe should also be provided. Please note that the Travel Awards do not allow for contributions to the cost of international airfares but rather are to assist staff with the travel costs specifically related to visiting MNU partners.

Applications will be considered at the March Internationalisation Committee meeting (due date for applications 26 Feb 2019). A maximum of $2,000 is available for each award. Applications should be endorsed by your HOD and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and submitted to Lynda McIver (lynda.mciver@otago.ac.nz), Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement). On completion of the project, recipients will be required to submit a written report to the Internationalisation Committee on the use and outcomes of the award.

Please note: Applicants who have previously received MNU funds, who are applying for funding to visit the same institution, may receive lower priority.
