Remedying a lack of science shows on public radio, Senior Teaching Fellow Dr Dave McMorran started “Science Notes” on Otago Access Radio.
“The station was looking for people to make shows and I realised there was no science involvement.
“I thought there must be heaps of postgraduate students out there with stories to tell, so I got permission and started the show in May, 2010.
Almost three years later, Dr McMorran has interviewed all sorts of postgrads – mostly second and third year doctoral candidates and Master’s students.
“They’ve come from all sorts of departments in the Division – from zoology and botany to geology and chemistry.
“I’ve done about 70 shows and most we do live. I interview the student about their thesis topic, and they get to bring along their favourite music to play.”
