The University of Otago PBRF-eligible categories are mapped automatically to the TEC categories, using sub-categories as required to differentiate specific publication/output types.

Verification evidence is required for all publications/outputs recorded in MyResearch. The evidence provided must cohere with the TEC guidelines on the PBRF Quality Evaluation assessment. You can find the latest guidelines on the following link:

2018 TEC Guidelines (PDF file, 1.4MB)

Evidence is stored electronically with the records in the University’s Central Research Output Database.

As publications/output entries are completed, citations appear in MyResearch and are available for selection into an Evidence Portfolio, so long as the Quality Assured status is specified as either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. If QA is ‘Not Specified’ follow the prompts to specify either Yes or No to release the record for EP selection.

Update on release of PBRF results to University of Otago Staff

The panel assessment process for the 2018 PBRF Quality Evaluation (QE) is now complete and the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) have announced their programme for the release of results. Interim results and reports at an institutional level and by assessment panels will be released on the TEC website on Tuesday 30th April, including infographics of the sector performance as well as longitudinal analysis over all four QE rounds.

As a university, we will receive under strict embargo our QE results on Monday 29th April for checking gross errors, from which we will be able to prepare breakdowns of results at divisional and academic-unit levels. These results and breakdowns will not contain individual researcher results.

Individual results for all staff who participated in the 2018 PBRF QE round will soon after be available in the University HR system (Web Kiosk). Staff will be notified by email on 30 April when the upload of data into Web Kiosk is complete and ready to access.

How to view your PBRF result?

1. Log into the Web Kiosk

2. From the menu select My HR

3. Select Personal Information

4. Select PBRF 2018 Information

5. Click on the Details section, and your PBRF details will be displayed

Unlike the 2012 PBRF Quality Evaluation, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) will not be automatically sending a component score breakdown to researchers, however, you can request this directly from the TEC. Please note that the University of Otago cannot request the breakdown on behalf of any individual staff member.

In order to request the component score breakdown, you will be required to complete a PDF form that can be filled, saved and sent electronically. This form will be provided in the email announcing the completed upload of results into Web Kiosk. It will also be available to download in MyResearch. You will need to insert your National Student Number (NSN) and EP ID in the form to ensure the EP information is correctly identified – your unique NSN and EP ID will be shown alongside the score in Web Kiosk. You will have a choice between receiving your breakdown by email or post, however, the email option is preferred by the TEC.

Any staff who submitted an EP and are no longer employed at the University, are able to contact Dr Donna Hendry, PBRF and Publications Manager (donna.hendry@otago.ac.nz; ext. 5391) to request their score from 30 April onwards.

If you have any questions please contact the PBRF and Publications Office, pbrf@otago.ac.nz, Ext. 5391.
