2018 School Ambassador Programme
The University of Otago provides travel reimbursements for second and third year students to return to their former secondary school and encourage students there to consider studying Pharmacy at the University of Otago.
We believe the best way to promote Otago is for prospective students to hear about the experiences of current students.
The Ambassador Programme is also run through the Division of Health Science, Division of Humanities, and Division of Sciences.
If you are completing a BPharm degree then you are welcome to apply to become a School of Pharmacy ambassador.
Application for 2018 close on Friday 20 April.
We are looking for students in their second or third year at Otago. The intention is for the student to be similar in age and outlook to the school pupils and perhaps even be known to them.
Ideally we would like to send students who have had both residential college and flatting experience, who are confident speakers, who involve themselves in extra-curricular activities and, most importantly, are passionate about pharmacy.
Students arrange the visits themselves so it is also helpful if they have maintained some contact with the school.
Local Dunedin Students
The School of Pharmacy is keen to include local students in the Ambassador Programme, so if you went to a Dunedin high school and would like to be an ambassador, then please apply.
Ideally School Ambassador visits happen during the break between semesters when university exams are over but secondary schools are still in session.
The window of opportunity for 2018 is between 21 June and 6 July (the last day of term for secondary schools).
Successful applicants will be required to attend an informal briefing session with a member of the Schools’ Liaison Officer.
Students will receive travel reimbursements of up to a maximum of $300.
This is a reimbursement based on the actual cost of travel and GST receipts for travel costs will be required.
If a student does not need to travel to visit their old high school (such as local Dunedin students), they will be reimbursed for their time with a Prezzy Card valued at $50.
Students will need to:
- complete an application form and attach a brief CV
- attach a copy of their academic record
- get a signature of recommendation from their lecturer on the application form
Deadline for applications
The deadline for completed application forms is Friday 20 April 2018.
Applicants will be advised if their application has been successful by 4 May 2018.
