New Professorial Appointments for the Physics Department

The Department is delighted by the promotion of two of its staff to full professorships in the most recent round of promotions. Blair Blakie and Craig Rodger were included in the group of 12 who will join the ranks of the University's professors next February.

Blair Blakie’s research interest is in the physics of ultra-cold gases, with a focus on Bose-Einstein condensates. Blair completed his PhD at Otago in 2001 and has been back with the Physics Department as a lecturer since 2004 working within the Jack Dodd Centre for Quantum Technololgy.

Craig Rodger's research focuses on the coupling between the Sun, the space around the Earth, and the Earth’s atmosphere and climate. Craig has been back with the Physics Department since 2000 after also completing a PhD here at Otago in 1997. He was the recipient of an Otago Teaching Award in 2011.
