A graduate of the School of Physiotherapy, David now works as a very busy practitioner with TBI Health, one of New Zealand's largest, integrated rehabilitation providers.

He initially chose to study health sciences after some good natured yet persistent pressure from his family to choose Dunedin with its strong family connections. After discovering that physiotherapy was about more than the treatment of aches and sprains from sports injuries, keen football player David swapped his plans for medicine for study in physiotherapy and tells us that he has never regretted that decision.

He recalls the vital connections between an active social life and the absorbing field of study offered by physiotherapy. The essential trust which is at the heart of effective clinical practice is built on foundations of respectful interactions with peers and academic staff. David tells us that his clinical practice is built on these same firm foundations of trust and respect.

Until recently well settled in Wellington, an offer of work back in Dunedin was enough to see the Williams family buying a new home and learning the challenges and pleasures of tending to a large garden and foliage that just keeps on growing.

David Williams concentrates his professional efforts on the treatment and rehabilitation of spinal injuries, in particular chronic lower back pain. His work with patients who have suffered workplace injuries has led to further Masters level study at Otago in the holistic treatment of pain, which includes physiological, social and biological factors. David is an advocate for the STarT Back system of treatment for back pain which you can read about at:
