Low back pain thumbnail

Recruitment closed.

Chronic low back pain is the dominant cause of disability in New Zealand and acupuncture is a promising treatment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of two positive acupuncture schemes for chronic low back pain.

Are you eligible for the study:

We are seeking adults who have had low back pain for more than three months.

What happens in the study:

Acupuncture thumbnailYou'll receive eight treatments of either acupuncture at pain-sensitive points or routine acupuncture plus cupping. Both schemes are considered effective and safe, however, we do not know which treatment is more effective. All treatments will be free.

You'll be asked to complete clinical questionnaires on a weekly basis during the treatment and 12 weeks after participation.

Schedule: Treatments will be delivered twice a week and for four weeks in total. Each treatment session will take approximately 50 minutes. The weekly assessment will take around 30 minutes.
