Paper Structure

Six-week placements in which clinical practice is undertaken full time in a variety of practice settings.

Students are based in one of the Dunedin, Christchurch or Wellington Centres or associated Clinical Hubs.

Teaching Arrangements
Students are supervised in their placements by clinical supervisors who are registered physiotherapists working in the area. Additional teaching is undertaken prior to and in between placements in Professional Studies Weeks.

Learning Outcomes

On meeting the requirements to pass the paper, the student will be able to practise physiotherapy autonomously at an entry level. Specifically, the student will be able to demonstrate

  • The knowledge base appropriate to community physiotherapy management
  • The ability to communicate, observe, assess and interpret findings relevant to the management of the patient
  • Clinical reasoning skills relevant to the assessment and treatment of the patient
  • An appropriate level of skill in carrying out the physiotherapy management
  • The ability to adapt the ongoing management appropriately
  • Professionalism
  • Reflective processes in order to evaluate clinical practice
  • Critical review of literature and ongoing learning that will inform changes in practice
