Research summaryThe role of ryanodine receptors in Alzheimer's disease

Research

The ryanodine receptor has been shown to be faulty in both Alzheimer’s (AD) and heart disease.

We study the receptor in neurons by determining how it is organised and trafficked in a mouse model of AD. Additionally, we will study the effects of already approved heart medications on the brain of this model mouse using patch clamp electrophysiology.

We aim to understand the function, and dysfunction, of this receptor in the brain and to find some way to restore its normal function in AD.
