The polar ice-ocean physics and modelling programme brings together staff and students working in polar physical oceanography, sea ice physics, and environmental mathematical modelling.

Current research includes Antarctic and Arctic sea ice observations and modelling. Specific areas of expertise are:

  • sea ice / ocean / ice shelves interactions,
  • remote sensing of ice thickness distribution,
  • sea ice / ocean waves interactions.

Field work is primarily carried out in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica.
