This research explores the interplay of factors that form the Indonesian government's preferences for food self-sufficiency.
As the existing literature typically only points out material gains and domestic political institutions as the two main factors, this research analyses ideas/beliefs as an alternative factor that may fill in the explanation gaps left by the other two. This research uses the Food Law 18/2012, the Farmers Law 19/2013, and the Omnibus Law of Job Creation 11/2020 as case studies to develop process tracing on how those laws were deliberated.
