Postgraduate study at Otago is opening doors for our clinical colleagues in the Cook Islands, Samoa, and elsewhere in the Pacific. Otago is proud to work with our Pacific neighbours to assist in health workforce development in the Pacific, and to improve the quality of health services for Pacific communities in New Zealand.

Postgraduate study opens doors for a wide variety of health professionals within New Zealand, the Pacific, and elsewhere in the world. For all health professionals, life-long learning and continuing professional development are essential building blocks for fulfilling and successful careers. Otago offers an extraordinary range of postgraduate courses for health professionals spanning management and clinical disciplines.

We know as a health professional, you are already committed to improving health and health outcomes in your area of expertise. You may be considering becoming one of over 1100 health sciences postgraduate students who are pursuing further education via research or taught qualifications.

All welcome

Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, professions, and ethnicities, and all have a vision to make meaningful contributions to the health of their communities.

You may be interested in a qualification for professional development, ensuring you are part of a world-class healthcare team for your community. You will learn not only from some of our world-leading staff, but also from fellow students – giving you a unique opportunity for interprofessional sharing and development.

Equally, your role in improving health may be through biological or biomedical research qualifications, with the aim of continuing the discoveries of new and important scientific or clinical advances.

Postgraduate study opportunities are also available in areas related to population health and the delivery of healthcare, such as bioethics, public health, health policy, and health management.

Improving our communities' health requires expertise in areas as diverse as biomedical science, clinical practice, and policy development. At Otago, you will find a pathway of study where you can pursue the area of health that is most important to you.

We invite you to work with us to tailor a course of postgraduate study that meets your professional development needs, and which opens doors for the next stage of your career.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Division of Health Sciences, Professor Peter Crampton
