- Paper Structure
The 'Public Health Approach' has four key elements: surveillance of health issues; identify risk and protective factors; develop, implement and evaluate interventions; and upscale successful implementation to policy and large-scale interventions. DENT463 focuses particularly on the third and fourth elements of the model to facilitate an understanding of the breadth of public health while consolidating previous understanding of epidemiology and public health, particularly as it relates to oral health.
In this paper there will be an emphasis on health promotion and education in oral health, the structure of health services and systems, the ethics of public health and health research and engaging Māori communities.
