Research analysis. Completion of a research project and presentation of a research report.
DENT552 is a self-directed research paper in which students undertake work to set up and run a research project with the support of research supervsiors. Commonly known as the "dental elective" this paper is an 18-point paper, with an expected workload of 225 hours. Students conduct their project through the final year, and present their findings in a report in the format of a scientific paper for publication. The Elective Colloquium is a 2-day mini-conference held at the end of the academic year in which students also present their findings in a 10 minute verbal presentation.

The final written report and student contribution/endeavor is assessed by the research supervisors. The Elective Colloquium presentation is assessed by one internal and one external examiner.
