EDUC461 The Construction of Curriculum in Early Childhood Education

Exploration of the construction of curriculum in early childhood education.

The course engages with cultural historical activity theory perspectives on curriculum development and change. This provides a means of exploring a particular curriculum issue relevant to the student's professional practice. An annotated bibliography leads into a student-centred essay assignment and final presentation. Students study independently and with peer and lecturer support via several scheduled ZOOM classes across the year thus those who live away from the University, or whose hours of work are such that they may have difficulty fitting in a class at University, can still have a class where we discuss and debate each others ideas.

The paper is offered via distance delivery only; however, for Dunedin-based students, face-to-face meetings may be arranged. Online video conferencing with students in other regions may also be possible.
Students will be expected to access required readings via the library and the internet and to source their own relevant readings.
