    German written and oral communication skills at an advanced level.

    A language paper for advanced learners of German, GERM 334 engages students in a series of discussions on topics of German society, language and culture. Students will develop their oral and written language skills, and their understanding of German contemporary society.

    Learning Outcomes

    Upon successful completion of GERM 334, students will have advanced to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and will be able to

    • Use German in both spoken and written form to discuss topics of current interest
    • Understand specialised articles related to a field of personal interest
    • Understand most TV news and current affair programmes
    • Read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems
    • Take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts
    • Explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options
    • Formulate ideas and opinions and relate their contribution to those of other speakers
    • Write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects
