    Digital production targeted specifically at communicating science. A focus on developing multimedia skills that are used to enhance storytelling associated with communicating science.

    This online world often requires a communicator to become proficient in a number of different ways of content creation. This paper aims to introduce and teach you a range of digital-based production skills that will allow you to package science into easily digestible online media content.

    Paper Structure

    Part One (90min): Seminar
    Seminars focus primarily on the aspect of digital media production. Students will learn about the history of the technique and how it has evolved in the digital world. We will also delve into Its relationship and role within science communication. Students are expected to contribute when appropriate.

    Part two (90min): In-Class practical tuition
    After a brief break, the students will move to the Science Communication computer room (Owheo 1.06) to participate in the learning of the technique discussed in the above seminar. These sessions will allow the students to become familiar with the software by working through a series of set exercises developed for this paper.

    Students who successfully complete this paper will

    1. Examine the history of using digital production techniques
    2. Examine the theory of the use of digital production techniques to enhance communication
    3. Explore practical ways of using digital production techniques (especially those associated with photography, filmmaking, animation, graphic design and podcasting) to enhance communication of science
    4. Become proficient with navigating a range of digital production software and content creation devices
