Overview
Our research group is building a simulation model that estimates the health impact and health cost savings of diet and physical activity interventions in adults. This PhD thesis would be an opportunity to extend this modelling to children and adolescents in New Zealand. This is a great opportunity as these methods are very novel internationally and haven't been applied to children before. The resulting estimates of health benefits to children are likely to be of great interest to policy-makers in New Zealand and internationally. The exact topic of your thesis would be open to some negotiation, but it is likely to involve model development and modelling effects of a range of diet or obesity prevention interventions in New Zealand's youth.
This project would suit someone with interests in epidemiology, nutrition, health economics (cost-effectiveness / health technology assessment) and/or disease modelling (e.g. Markov models and macro-simulation).
