Overview

This project will seek to determine the cause of the present c. 0.8mm/yr subsidence of the Dunedin volcano, as determined from the last 1–2 decades of geodetic data from rock sites across the volcano.

Elastic and/or viscoelastic modelling of post seismic deformation from late Holocene Akatore Fault earthquakes (constrained in recent paleoseismic studies) will be a definite line of investigation in the project.

The project will be suitable for a student with interests in deformation modelling and active tectonics, and with a willingness to learn with deformation modelling software.
