Volunteering for the Dunedin Community Accounting programme has given Master of Finance student Felix Lee valuable practical experience.

“The programme provides answers and help to charities from a range of backgrounds. Having spent almost five years in Dunedin, it's a great way to give back to the local community. Plus gaining teamwork skills and building relationships with clients is always a bonus.”

For his undergraduate degree, Felix completed a double major in accounting and finance, which he says gave him a holistic view of the business world.

“The student culture at the Otago Business School was a big part of my decision to study here. I've gained invaluable connections that will help me in my career and made lifelong friends. The professors and teaching staff take a hands-on approach to learning and constantly offer support, fostering an enjoyable environment.”

He's also made the most of the many extra-curricular opportunities on offer at Otago, providing tutoring for younger students and getting involved with the CFA Institute Research Challenge.

“I was tasked with valuing Z Energy. A semester of hard work followed by a presentation in Auckland resulted in second place.”

Outside of study, Felix has appreciated having easy access to the South Island's ski fields. With a plan to spend the final semester of his MFinc on exchange in Sweden, Felix hopes to go into a career in investment banking or asset management.
