The University of Otago provides car parking for University of Otago staff and students at our Park n Ride facility. The Park n Ride facility carpark area is located in the Forsyth Barr Stadium carpark area with access from Anzac Avenue.

There are 100 parks available for the exclusive use of University of Otago staff and students, from 7:30am – 7:30pm Monday to Friday, who hold a valid Park n Ride permit.

Park n Ride permit holders are required to pay an annual $60 administration fee. Note that there are more than 100 permits issues for Park n Ride, so payment of the fee does not guarantee a carpark.

Please note that the Park n Ride service will no longer be provided by the University of Otago after 30 June 2024, or thereabouts.

Until when can I use my 2023 permit?

If you hold a 2023 Park n Ride permit, you are permitted access to Park n Ride until the 31 January 2024. After 1 February 2024, you should display your 2024 Park n Ride permit.

How can I apply for a permit?

As of November 2023, we are confirming intent to renew Park n Ride 2024 permits with current permit holders.

Applications to be added to the waiting list for Park n Ride 2024 permits are being accepted. Please email your interest to parking@otago.ac.nz and we will advise you in December 2023 whether we have a permit available to offer you.

If your application is successful, you will be provided with an information pack, payment details and an agreement to sign.

Can I park there before my application is accepted?

To park in Park n Ride, you need to ensure that a valid permit is displayed on your dashboard. Parking in the Park n Ride carpark area without a valid permit may result in enforcement.

How do I pay for the permit?

Instructions on how to pay for the permit will be emailed to you upon acceptance of your application or renewal.

Note that payments are now only to be made online; however, if this is not possible, please advise parking@otago.ac.nz so that alternative arrangements can be made.

How long do I wait after payment is made to receive my permit?

Payments may take up to five business days to be reconciled into the Property and Campus Development account.

If you have not received notice that your permit is available to be sent or collected after 10 business days of making payment, please email parking@otago.ac.nz.

Note that permits may not be sent until late-November.

How do I collect my permit?

An email will be sent to you once payment has been received by Property and Campus Development and your 2024 Park n Ride permit has been made available.

For staff: permits will be mailed internally to the department address you have provided.

For students: permits will be available to be collected from Property and Campus Development Reception. You will need to bring your University of Otago Student ID with you upon collection.

Can I pay for and collect my permit in person?

Due to administrative changes in parking, Park n Ride permits are no longer administered from Property and Campus Development reception, with an exception of permit collection by students once notification has been received.

If payment is unable to be made online, please contact parking@otago.ac.nz to make alternative arrangements.

Can I get more than one permit?

Due to the limited number of permits available, we are unable to provide additional permits under the same permit number.

Where can I park?

The University of Otago Park n Ride spaces within the larger Forsyth Barr Stadium carpark area are marked with ‘OU’.

Any vehicles parking outside of the designated University of Otago Park n Ride carparks may be subject to the stadium’s charges and penalties and may be removed at the Owner’s expense.

What happens if there is no park available?

There are 100 carparks available in the Park n Ride carpark area; however, more than 100 permits are issued for Park n Ride so payment of the fee does not guarantee a park.

The University has no liability if, on occasion and for any reason, there is not a vacant park immediately available to permit holders.

Can I still park here on the weekend?

Park n Ride permits provide you with access to one of the 100 University of Otago spaces from the hours of 7:30am – 7:30pm Monday to Friday only (exclusive of public holidays).

Enforcement may apply to anyone parking in the area outside these hours.

Can I get a refund if the park is closed for events?

At times, the University may temporarily require the carpark or require the permit holder to vacate the carpark for any reason whatsover. Permit holders must act in accordance with this request.

Where Park n Ride is closed for events, the administration fee will not be refunded.

Can more than one vehicle use my Park n Ride permit?

Yes, you can have multiple cars authorised to use your Park n Ride permit; however, only one vehicle per permit is permitted to be parked in Park n Ride at any one time.

Enforcement may apply where more than one vehicle for a particular permit is parked in the Park n Ride area at any one time.

What happens if I forget my permit?

If you forget to display your permit on your dashboard, please advise parking@otago.ac.nz with your name, permit number and registration plate details.

Enforcement may apply where more than one vehicle for a particular permit is parked in the Park n Ride area at any one time.

Can I still park at the stadium after 30 June 2024?

Park n Ride will no longer be available after the 30 June 2024. Please note that the final date of the Park n Ride service is to be confirmed; however, it is projected to be a final date of 30 June 2024.

After the conclusion of Park n Ride, permits will no longer provide you with access to parking in the wider Forsyth Barr Stadium carpark area.

Any unauthorised vehicles parking within the Forsyth Barr Stadium carpark area may be subject to the stadium’s charges and penalties, or may be removed at the Owner’s expense.

What will happen to Park n Ride after 30 June 2024?

At the conclusion of Park n Ride, an as yet to be determined number of the Park n Ride parking spaces will be reallocated to Licenced Parks in keeping with the University of Otago Parking Policy.
