Phd candidate Axel Norberg
Congratulations to Axel Norberg who was recognised at the International Conference on Biofabrication with an ISBF Best Oral Presentation Award.
The International Society of Biofabrication (ISBF) promotes advances in biofabrication research as well as its medical and clinical applications. The annual biofabrication conference is an important touchstone for the society's purpose.
Axel submitted an abstract “Haemoglobin loaded oxygen carrying microspheres for bioassembly”, based on his PhD research. On the strength of that, he was invited to deliver an oral presentation at the conference held late last month, virtually in response to covid-19 travel restrictions.
“I'm very happy to have received this award and it feels great to finally get to present my work at an international conference!” says Axel. “Due to the travel restrictions this is the first conference outside of New Zealand that I have attended since starting my PhD, and I hope I will have more opportunities to engage with the international science community in the future as well. I also want to give my thanks to my supervisory team and Gabriella Lindberg in particular. I would never have been able to achieve this without the guidance they provide.”
Axel is completing his PhD within the Christchurch Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering (CReaTE) research group, which is part of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Medicine.
Axel is supervised by CReaTE researchers Dr Gabriella Lindberg, Professor Tim Woodfield, and Dr Khoon Lim, as well as the Department Head, Professor Gary Hooper.
