The University will next week celebrate the life of Emeritus Professor Keith Hunter at a memorial service at the Staff Club.

A memorial service will be held next week for Keith Hunter, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry and former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Sciences, who died at his home late last month.

The memorial, to be held at the Staff Club on Thursday 29 November from 3pm, will see some formalities, followed by an opportunity for people to share their own stories and memories of Professor Hunter.

Emeritus Professor Hunter had a long and distinguished career at Otago, supervising more than 100 graduate students in addition to his considerable service roles. His research in the field of marine and analytical chemistry was recognised with many honours and awards including the Prime Minister’s Science Prize in 2011 and the Marsden Medal in 2014. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and the Chair of the PBRF Physical Sciences panel in the 2012 round.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) Professor Richard Blaikie says that as well as being remembered for these distinctions, Emeritus Professor Hunter’s dedication to supporting staff and students, inspirational leadership, warm collegiality and good humour will be amongst his enduring legacies.
