Overview
In some places in Westland, the K-T boundary occurs in terrestrial coal measures. The boundary is defined by an iridium anomaly that originates from the meteorite that vaporised. What are the mineral phases at this boundary that host the iridium? Is microdiamond present? How do biomarkers change in the carbonaceous material on either side of the boundary? What was the temperature change? The project would involve fieldwork to collect material and lab work to characterize it.
