Overview

Earth's mantle, located beneath the crust, plays a critical role in stabilisation and longevitiy of continents. Via analysis of mantle xenoliths and other mantle rocks, it is possible to characterise the composition and evolution of this mantle.

New Zealand has many mantle rock occurrences, and we are building a picture of the lower portion of this continent. Projects involve some fieldwork and labwork, with the latter involving mineral and isotopic characterisation.
