Thesis: Understanding the Social and Political Dynamics of Food Waste Streams in the Food Production Industry in New Zealand.
My research uses the conceptual framework of ‘waste regime theory’ to understand systems of waste as they play out in New Zealand’s food production sector. I will use the framework to understand the political, social, and practical realities of food waste in this sector, and how they enact a system of waste. Given the rise of food waste on the social and political agenda, the looming global crises of our time, and the distinct lack of knowledge about food waste in New Zealand’s especially large food production sector, I am excited that my research is well positioned to have meaningful impact.
