A recognised professional qualification in the social services is a crucial step in becoming a social worker.

At Otago we offer two professional qualifications that lead to eligibility to apply for Social Work Registration: the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and the Master of Social and Community Work (Applied) (MSCW(Applied)). In addition to these, we offer postgraduate research degrees in Social and Community Work.

Our professional bachelor degree (BSW)

Our professional bachelor degree, the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a nationally and internationally recognised qualification. It is an approved and accredited qualification by both the Social Workers Registration Board of New Zealand (SWRB) and the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW).
