COVID Protection Framework – Red, Orange, Green

Student Health will be providing a full range of primary health care services and advice to all Otago students based in Dunedin.

To minimise risk to students and staff, we will provide appointments via telehealth or in-person as clinically appropriate.

Student Health will be operating a red stream for patients with COVID symptoms and green stream for all other appointments

All patients will be screened for COVID symptoms when making an appointment.


  • All patients must phone for an appointment – do not arrive without phoning first
  • All patients must wear a medical mask for their appointment, if this is not possible the appointment will be by telehealth
  • All Student Health staff will be wearing appropriate PPE for your appointment
  • QR code scan or log book must be completed on entry to the building
  • All appointments incur the usual charges (including telehealth)

Red Stream Appointments

  • If you have COVID symptoms you will be given a telehealth appointment and the clinician will determine if you need to be seen in-person
  • If you need to be seen in-person, the access to Student Health will be via the South door

Green Stream appointments

  • All patients will be screened on arrival at the main reception desk at Student Health
  • If you develop covid symptoms after making the appointment, please call student health to arrange for your appointment to be changed to telehealth

  • All students must wear a medical mask while in the Student Health building
  • Please maintain 1 metre physical distancing while within Student Health buildings
  • Non-semester opening hours: 8:30am–5.00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. 9.45am–5.00pm Wednesday
  • Semester opening hours: 8:30am–8:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. 9:45am–8:30pm Wednesday

Covid symptoms

  • The Ministry of Health strongly advises getting tested for COVID‑19 if you have any symptoms
  • To arrange a test for students in Dunedin with COVID‑19 symptoms, phone 0800 VIRUS 19 (0800 847 8719) or drop in at the testing centre at 5 Malcolm Street

    • If outside of Dunedin phone COVID‑19 Healthline 0800 358 5453 or your local GP
    • Covid testing is free, except for testing that is required for repatriation or overseas travel
    • If you have COVID symptoms and need to see a GP /Nurse, you will initially be booked for a telehealth appointment at Student Health, the clinician will determine if you need to be seen in-person
    • Let someone know that you are unwell – College staff or flatmate

    • Ventilation – open windows where possible
    • Physical distancing
    • Keep a record of where you have been (QR scan or log book)
    • Respiratory Hygiene – stay home if you are unwell and follow advice above. Wash your hands frequently, observe cough etiquette.
