We are so excited that this week is te reo o te wiki (te reo Māori language week).

The week runs from September 10th – 16th and we are all challenging each other and you to kōrero te reo Māori (speak te reo Māori) as much as possible not only this week but all year!

Whether you are fluent, learning or have never spoken a word, he mahi pai noa iho (its no problem), just give it a go. To get you started, here are a few phrases you could use when in ordering your daily cup of coffee.

The theme of this year is 'Kia Kaha te Reo Māori'. 'Kia Kaha' is well known in New Zealand English with its correct Māori meaning of 'be strong'. We often talk about languages as if they are people – talking about language health, strength and revitalisation. So when we say 'Kia Kaha te Reo Māori' we're saying - 'Let's make the Māori language strong'.
