Our two assistant research fellows Vicky Nelson and Georgia McCarty flew the ditch last week to go the the 17th Qualitative Methods Conference in Brisbane.

“Our week included a 2-day pre-conference workshop followed by the 3-day conference programme with a wide range of topics including participant recruitment, coding practices and categorization to discussions around different theories and methodologies. There was also stimulating discussions and innovative ideas around research outputs and the responsiveness to our communities involved.

A highlight of the conference was listening to Dr Lynette Riley (a Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi woman from Dubbo and Moree) from the Sydney School of Education and Social Work who gave a great mini keynote on decolonising methodologies through an aboriginal lens.

We both look forward to attending again in the future and sharing our research and contributing to the growth of indigenous knowledge in qualitative research forums.”
