Information

Established in 2021 by the University of Otago with support from a generous donation by the Greer family and friends, the scholarship is named after Dr Andrew Greer, a Consultant in the Intensive Care Unit, at Christchurch Hospital who passed away suddenly in January 2019. Dr Greer, of Ngāti Kahungunu descent, had a particular interest in positive health outcomes for Māori.

Applicant must be:

  • a current undergraduate University of Otago Health Sciences student wishing to undertake an honours year, or pursue other programmes of post-graduate study in the year following application;
  • a student, Māori or non-Māori, wishing to further their research in an area specific to Māori health and wellbeing. If the applicant is a junior doctor, it is not a requirement that they are a graduate of the University of Otago.

The following factors shall be considered in selecting the Scholarship:

  • academic performance in the years preceding application;
  • other potential to conduct excellent research, as evidenced by research or relevant work positions held, publications, academic references.
