The Ernst & Young Prestige Prize in Accounting is awarded annually by the University Council on the recommendation of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) to a student majoring in Accounting, who has completed all 200-level papers required for an Accounting major in one calendar year and who demonstrates the best all round performance.
In making its recommendation to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce), the Department of Accountancy and Finance Selection Committee (consisting of the Chair of the Departmental Teaching and Learning Committee and two other nominees appointed by the Head of Department) will take into account the student’s academic performance at 200 level (a minimum GPA of 7.0), aptitude in accounting, leadership potential, written and verbal skills, interpersonal abilities, project management and general student or community involvement.
Students are required to submit an application to the University of Otago Scholarships Office by the specified closing date.
Every applicant must submit:
• A completed application form
• A covering letter explaining why they would be a worthy recipient of the award and outlining their career goals and future aspirations
• A curriculum vitae.
The monetary value of the award is $1000, as well as entry into an EY Career Compass programme. It shall be taken up in the year it is awarded.
