At the staff forum on 12 October 2017, the Vice-Chancellor announced the outcomes of the SSR period of consultation and the start of the implementation of the business case proposal.
As we move into the implementation phase, this newsletter will become a regular communication from the SSR project team, providing staff with project updates and important information.
The SSR website will also be regularly updated, and we encourage staff to continue to send through any questions or comments for this newsletter or the website using the ‘Have your say’ form.
Selected vacancies will be listed in this newsletter, but for full vacancy listings please be sure to check the Current Vacancies section on the HR web site. The first tranche of recruitment will result in appointments at Director and Manager level, and we anticipate this will be completed before the end of 2017.
Voluntary redundancy information sessions
If you are considering voluntary redundancy, you may wish to attend an upcoming information session developed for staff. An initial two sessions are currently scheduled in Dunedin for Wednesday 25 October and Monday 30 October 2017 and additional meetings will be arranged to meet demand if required. Sessions are also being organised in Christchurch and Wellington; staff will be advised when details are finalised.
The session will include:
- Information about the voluntary redundancy process, guidelines and entitlements as well as details about the University’s management of change process.
- Ministry of Social Development (MSD) representatives will provide information about the implications of redundancy, entitlements for job seeker support as well as advice on the current job market and where to look for jobs.
- IRD representatives will provide information on tax implications and kiwisaver payments following redundancy.
- At the conclusion of the presentations there will be time for a Q & A session, and individual consultation sessions with MSD, IRD and HR staff.

Working during periods of change – flexibility and adaptable thinking
In response to requests from staff, we are pleased to advise that Jane Davis will present another session for staff on Tuesday 7 November 2017 in the Common Room at Arana College. This programme provides the opportunity to learn about and apply practical tools to sustain yourself during periods of change.
