Students participating in the event got the chance to participate in typical surveying student exercises, learn a little about what a professional surveyor and spatial scientist does and rub shoulders with current university students in the lecture halls and computer labs. Cloudy weather didn’t dampen the students' enthusiasm or upset the hydrographic work carried out on the harbour.
One of the supporting careers teachers commented “They were all very positive about the experience and all said that they had a great day. They really enjoyed the hands on work and of course the boat trip.”
The event was a first for the School of Surveying, although undoubtedly we will be running the day again next year. Many thanks to our enthusiastic group of surveying students; the day proved to be a very enjoyable experience for both students and staff alike.
Here are some photos showing some of the activities included in the event.
