The NZ Institute of Surveyors is pleased to announce a new President, Rebecca Strang and two new board members, Michelle Bain and Dr Jordan Alexander.
Andrew Stirling, Board Chair says, “the new appointees bring strong governance and female leadership to the Board and Council and demonstrate the NZIS commitment to promoting diversity within the surveying and spatial sector which is one of our key goals”.
Rebecca is delighted to be the first female president since the organisation's inception over 100 years ago. “We represent surveying and spatial professionals throughout New Zealand and it is a huge honour” says Rebecca. One of her aims would be to streamline the way the council is currently operated.
Rebecca has been Vice-President for two years and prior to this, was actively involved at the branch level and as a leader of the Young Professionals group.
Based in Auckland, Rebecca's professional role is Digital Practice Leader at Aurecon NZ - a global engineering and infrastructure advisory company. Her role is to help the organisation to define the way they deliver projects to their clients in the most efficient and consistent way.
Michelle Bain, has a vast breadth of governance, business management and professional surveying experience. She has 22 years of corporate experience as a director, manager and company owner of Cato Bolam Consultants Ltd, a multi-discipline surveying, planning, engineering and environmental consultancy with multiple offices. Michelle is a highly respected Registered Professional Surveyor within the land development industry and she has considerable not-for-profit governance experience in the sport of sailing both at international and national levels.
Dr Jordan Alexander has worked in operational and strategic positions across government, private and community sectors in North America and Australasia and is currently Managing Director at Pangaea Consulting. Jordan is excited to join the NZIS board and is committed to “serious governance” (with a side of humour).
She is looking forward to applying her extensive public service, Parliamentary, entrepreneurial and corporate experience to building strong relationships in the coming years.
