Professor Christina Hulbe's services to glaciology have been recognised by the International Glaciological Society in awarding her the 2020 Richardson Medal. Professor Hulbe shares the award with Cambridge University’s Professor Eric Wolff for their forward-thinking initiatives to lead the change of the Society’s in-house publishing operations of the Journal of Glaciology and Annals of Glaciology to universal open access publishing by Cambridge University Press.
Professor Hulbe says scientific research in the area involves so many people, receives public support and addresses so many questions with social and environmental relevance. “It really matters that what we write, whether it is for a general or a scientific audience, to be as accessible as possible. Maintaining diverse, vigorous and accessible journals is an essential part of this.”
