Antarctic Sea Ice
Sea ice research in the School of Surveying is focussed primarily on investigating the connections between Antarctic sea ice, ice shelves, and coastal oceanography. We accomplish this through field invesitgations, remote sensing studies and numerical modelling.

Antarctic Remote Sensing
Observation of the polar regions from airborne or spaceborne sensors is a key part of our work in Antarctica. We routinely use satellite borne sensors to monitor Antarctic ice shelves and coastal sea ice. We also use airborne sensors to characterise the Ross Ice Shelf and McMurdo Sound sea ice cover and we are working with national and international collaborators on refining airborne electromagnetic measurements of ice.
