Further development of the concepts of cadastral boundary definition in New Zealand, together with the calculation and presentation of the associated datasets. The cadastral survey dataset requirements for various types of land tenure, and an introduction to limited title surveys.
Students will be introduced to a range of cadastral datasets relevant to specific
legislation and land tenure. Instruction will be given in the methodology of performing
cadastral surveys such that students can conduct a straightforward land transfer survey
in Landonline. Students will also be given instruction in the use of GNSS (Global
Navigation Satellite System) in cadastral surveys and learn how to conduct limited
as to parcels surveys. Students will gain problem-solving skills in the New Zealand
This paper logically follows on from SURV 207 Cadastral Surveying 1, but concentrates on the definition skills required by the licensed cadastral surveyor and the presentation of datasets to Land Information NZ. It provides the practical application in cadastral surveys that support the varieties of land tenure introduced in SURV 206 and 306. It also forms a practical link with SURV 305 Statutory Planning in terms of the application of Territorial Authority consents related to cadastral surveys.

- Search and analyse existing survey and title data in Landonline
- Demonstrate understanding in cadastral definition processes
- Create a straightforward LT CSD in compliance with the Rules for Cadastral Survey
- Create a CSD using third-party software and apply the LandXML process to integrate the survey in Landonline
- Demonstrate proficiency in Landonline and the relevant Rules for Cadastral Survey
- Apply GNSS technology to NZ cadastral surveys and create a CSD in Landonline from their own fieldwork
- Create survey reports in compliance with the Rules for Cadastral Survey
- Be able to describe features and requirements for surveys such as, but not limited to, cross-leases, building height restrictions, Māori land, legalisation surveys, limited as to parcels titles
- Resolve boundary definition conflicts in accordance with statute and common law
