Overview

The Bachelor of Theology (BTheol) is a specialist degree that requires three years of full-time (or equivalent in part-time study), and is also available through Distance Learning.

The degree must include the major subject requirements for at least one of:

Things to remember:

  • All three Majors share the same 100-level papers - these are all compulsory for the degree
  • Think ahead - papers at 200- or 300-level usually have prerequisite papers that must have been passed in earlier years. Take this into account when planning your programme
  • Many BTheol students take more than the minimum 72 points of 300-level Theology papers
  • You are also permitted to include up to 90 points from non-Theology papers

It is your responsibility to plan your course of study so that you complete the requirements listed under each Major, but the Department is able to offer advice if you would like it.

Students are taught by research-active scholars, are expected to undertake a variety of learning experiences and are challenged to develop their intellectual independence.

Bachelor of Theology Graduates

Graduates of the programme are well-informed about the key themes of and approaches to the different areas of study which are encompassed by the subject areas of Theology and have the ability to integrate learning across the range of subject areas of Theology.

Bachelor of Theology (BTheol) endorsed in Biblical Studies

Papers

A programme may be endorsed in Biblical Studies if it includes a total of eight BIBS papers, including three at 300-level.

Bachelor of Theology (BTheol) endorsed in Christian Thought and History

Papers

A programme may be endorsed in Christian Thought and History if it includes a total of eight CHTH papers, including three at 300-level.

Bachelor of Theology (BTheol) endorsed in Pastoral Studies

Papers

A programme may be endorsed in Pastoral Studies if it includes a total of eight Pastoral Studies papers, including three at 300-level (for the purposes of this endorsement, BIBS 121, CHTH 102, and CHTH 131 may be counted as Pastoral Studies papers in addition to PAST papers).
