Please note: When Ryan was studying with us, the Pathways programme was called 'Foundation Year'.

Home country: Zimbabwe, Programme: Foundation Year

Ryan was working full time in a construction workshop in American Samoa before joining us here at UOLCFY. He is currently studying the Business / Commerce stream at UOLCFY and has big plans for the future.

He has many hobbies such as rugby, soccer, music and meeting people from all cultures. However, this year he is focusing his energy on getting good grades from the Foundation Year programme so some of his hobbies will have to wait.

The reason Ryan chose to study at UOLCFY was due to the University of Otago's high ranking amongst world universities and he thought our marketing school looked the best in Australasia. He is very happy with his choice to study here and claims it to be one of the best decisions he has ever made, due in large part to the teaching staff here.

Once he graduates he hopes to live in the UK or Canada and he intends to help put Zimbabwe on the map by helping others realise their goals. He has a lot of positive energy!
Ryan has really enjoyed the activities that are a part of student life here at UOLCFY and he has found his own adventures too. His campervan tour around the South Island was one of the highlights. There is no reason to be stuck inside once you have done your homework.

One of the key points for Ryan's success so far has been Homestay accommodation. Staying with a Homestay family has meant he can focus on his studies while having the stability and comfort that home living can offer. Ryan's Homestay family has made him feel very welcome and helped him deal with any stress that can arise from living away from home. Ryan strongly recommends coming to study at UOLCFY and staying in a Homestay.
